The Garden is designed to present numerous separate themed garden environments. 

Among the gardens, highlights include: the Formal Garden, located just south of Lilly House, features roses, perennials, annuals, boxwood, evergreens, arbors and a fountain; the Ravine Garden, designed in the 1920s, is located behind Lilly House; the one-acre Ravine Garden descends more than 40 feet to the edge of the Indianapolis Water Company Central Canal; the Orchard, designed in the 1920s; and he Allée and Border Gardens, which present a sweeping lawn lined with 58 red oak trees, stretching 775 feet in front of Lilly House, and sun-and-shade perennial gardens.
