Sightlines:

Since the earliest days of photography in the nineteenth century, practitioners in Britain and beyond have used the medium to study, interpret, and represent the landscape. In response to political, environmental, and cultural change, photographic artists cultivated new aesthetic strategies for depicting the environment.

​​This exhibition broadens the genre of landscape photography by including many different types of photographic images, from photojournalism and surreal photocollages to botanical studies and land-art documentation. Putting breathtaking early prints in dialogue with more contemporary mixed-media works, this exhibition foregrounds the political and affective dimensions of landscape photography.
