The exhibition Tito in Africa – Picturing Solidarity documents the strong relationship between the Yugoslav state leader Josip Broz Tito (1892–1980) and African heads of state. The photographs in this exhibition, from the collection of the Museum of Yugoslavia, record the 1960s and ’70s travels of Tito and his wife, Jovanka Broz, through Africa, where they met with the likes of Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie, Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser, and Ghanese president Kwame Nkrumah. With these visits, Tito aimed not only to cement international relations but also to convey a message of solidarity and anti-colonialism.
