Sponsored in part by the Audia Group, Rough and Tumble, Smoke and Rope: The Cowboy Way in Modern America is a sincere photographic documentation of the inner workings, people and stock animals who are the central players in this life that feeds a global appetite for beef and good riding stock. The exhibition comprises photographs by some of the best documentarian photographers of Western ranching culture.
The photographs are imbued with lively action that nearly causes one to smell the dust, the smoke, and the burning hides during branding. They also capture the character of the people—men, women, and children, who carry on this business—who work hard, with good humor and a combined commitment to produce not only a product, but a continued presence on the plains where man, animal and the earth intersect.
