Artist Susan Vecsey (born 1971) creates minimalistic, emotive landscapes using geometric forms and color planes reminiscent of the 1940s and 1950s Color Field tradition.

Born in Somerville, New Jersey, Vecsey began her art education at Barnard College, Columbia University, where she studied art history, photography, and painting. She received her MFA in painting at the New York Studio School.

Vecsey begins each work with charcoal drawings and color studies. She then pours paint directly on to each canvas to create horizontal planes, which she then dilutes with various chemical washes. The process yields saturated, yet transparent hues that converge in horizontal planes.
