Moving Image: Portraiture

In the video Towards An Architect, Hannu Karjalainen portrays a fictional architect who is experiencing the response of people living in the structures he designed. Daniel Rozin’s Mirror No. 10 is driven by software, written by the artist, that generates a real-time reflection of the environment the screen is displayed in—specifically a live sketch of the viewer approaching the frame. Mesocosm (Northumberland, UK) is an algorithmic work by Marina Zurkow that depicts the passage of time on the moors of Northeast England.

Moving Image: Portraiture is the third of three exhibitions drawn from the collection of the Borusan Contemporary, Istanbul, which since 2011 has been focused on media arts. The works in this series address both formal concerns and conceptual topics; many represent traditional categories such as portraiture and landscape that find new resonance when explored through the strategies of dynamic technology.
