To commemorate the release of the highly anticipated publication of the same title, Delaware Discoveries: Girlhood Embroidery, 1750-1850, the Biggs Museum is hosting an exhibition of newly discovered and masterworks of Delaware embroidery of 1700s and 1800s. This expanded view into locally-made samplers and other needlework builds on the groundbreaking exhibition and catalog, “Wrought with Careful Hand”: Ties of Kinship on Delaware Samplers, featured at the Biggs in 2013. The sequel of a show is designed to keep pace with the expansive and exhaustive research that has been conducted on this unique Delaware art form for the book by historian Gloria Allen and others.
