Allen "Uzikee" Nelson has sculpture throughout Washington, DC. A 1965 graduate of SIU with a degree in Engineering Technology, Uzikee kept his hand on another interest of his even while teaching at the University of the District of Columbia for many years. His other interest was making art. In 1970 he created his first major work of art — a fifteen foot steel sculpture commissioned by the NAACP for a neighborhood park in Peoria, Illinois. His work has been featured at Howard University, the Martin Luther King Library, the Industrial Bank of Washington and many other venues.
