The Gardens' 67.5 acres are filled with more than 30 thematic gardens, each one classified into one of three types: Gardens of Collections, Gardens of Nature and Gardens of Culture.

Among the gardens are rhododendron, crape myrtles, an Asian glade, rose gardens, ferns, camellias, hostas, irises, lilies, herbs, wildflowers and Alabama woodlands

The artwork work of many different artists are featured in exhibitions each year. The subject of these works feature botanical, natural, environmental themes.

Guided Garden Tours are available seven days a week.  Birmingham Botanical Gardens is one of the gardens in the state to be featured on the Alabama Garden Trail.
