Opening April 5, 2019. The Shed is a multi-disciplinary cultural facility commissioning original visual and performance works, for all audiences -- "of and for 21st-century New York City."

The commissioning model provides space, support, and resources for leading and early-career artists, thinkers, and makers across all forms and mediums to experiment with, produce, and present original work.

The Shed’s high-tech Bloomberg Building is a transformable, movable structure designed for flexibly to respond to artists’ visions and support unique audience experiences.

An eight-level base structure holds two expansive, column-free galleries totaling 25,000 square feet of museum-quality space; an intimate black-box theater; event and rehearsal space; and a creative lab that will be provided free to early-career local artists. A telescoping outer shell can be deployed over the adjoining 20,000-square-foot plaza to create a 17,000-square-foot light-, sound-, and temperature-controlled hall.
