Situated in the heart of San Francisco’s Yerba Buena arts district, MoAD, is one of the few museums focused exclusively on the African Diaspora. MoAD celebrates Black cultures, ignites challenging conversations, and inspires learning through the global lens of the African Diaspora.
Four broad themes in exhibitions and programming -- Origin, Movement, Adaptation, and Transformation -- explore shared African ancestry from both an historic and contemporary perspective. A Smithsonian Affiliate, MoAD considers the African roots of contemporary social, artistic and cultural forms of expression and practices that define the modern Diaspora.
