IA&A at Hillyer (formerly Hillyer Art Space) is International Arts & Artists’ contemporary arts center based at our headquarters in Washington, DC.

Committed to serving the public and supporting artists at all stages of their careers, Hillyer presents a series of exhibitions and programs that feature local, regional, and international artists. Founded in 2006, Hillyer continues to provide significant support to both local and international artists, as well as presenting programs that reach a broad audience and create a platform for dialogue.

The core of Hillyer’s exhibitions are selected through a very competitive annual call for proposals, and selected artists are awarded a solo exhibition in one of Hillyer’s three galleries. These artists are paired with a member of Hillyer’s Artist Advisory Committee, comprised of local established artists and arts professionals. Committee members, along with Hillyer’s staff, work one-on-one with the artists leading up to their exhibitions, working to advise and mentor them, and to provide continued support throughout their artistic careers.

Open seven days a week, Hillyer works with cultural organizations and embassies in order to engage with and increase the public’s understanding of other cultures through accessible arts programming. Hillyer’s exhibitions and programs provide an intimate and approachable means for the public, whether local or visiting, to interface with contemporary art and artists.
