In 1996 the Humboldt Arts Council accepted an offer from the City of Eureka to undertake the effort to save the historic 1904 Carnegie Library building, which was destined for demolition. In 2000, a regional art museum - the Morris Graves Museum of Art- and art center opened in the converted library. The Museum today houses seven galleries including a Courtyard Sculpture Garden.

The Morris Graves Museum of Art is dedicated to the arts and artists of the Pacific Northwest with the highest priority given to the works of our patron artist, Morris Graves, who donated more than one hundred works of art from his personal collection.
