Located on the banks of the Mississippi River, the museum is set on four acres of prairie-style gardens, and housed in a turn-of-the-century-style building. With a core collection focused on traditional marine or maritime art, the museum is also home to a major collection on long-term loan of works from the Hudson River School and Luminism, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, Realism, Modernism, and contemporary art. Included are works by Turner, Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Cassatt, Gauguin, Picasso, Matisse, Kandinsky, O'Keeffe, Homer, Wyeth, and many more.
