Established in 1967, the center expanded from a historic house to a 100,000 square feet facility including ten galleries.
Since the 1970s, the Arts Center has been involved in the preservation, study, and exhibition of work by vernacular artists, and has been the home of a world-renowned Arts/Industry program. The Arts/Industry collection comprises works of art produced by artists-in-residence.
