Opened in 1957, the museum exhibits artwork by its namesake, Birger Sandzén as well as works by more than 720 other artists and makers.
The collection includes a wide variety of artists, the likes of Thomas Hart Benton and Gustave Baumann, Georges Braque; Lucas Cranach, Dale Chihuly, Durer, Daubigny, Daumier; Alan Houser. Henry Moore, Picasso, Saint-Gaudens.
Additionally there are works on long term loan to the gallery.
