Associated with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the Museum's collection concentrates on 20th and 21st century American art.

Notable in the collection are the more than 700 Japanese woodblock prints and 67 Matisse prints and six bronzes, as well as prints and drawings by Pablo Picasso, Felix Valloton, Raoul Dufy and John Graham.

The Weatherspoon’s brick-paved garden features 7000 sq ft  for the display of sculpture from the permanent collection.
