Chicago-based artist Betsy Odom (American b.1980) employs the term “butchcraft” to describe the appropriation of labor intensive processes like leather tooling, woodcarving, and airbrushing. Odom subverts gendered associations by using these techniques to handcraft objects such as catcher’s mitts, soccer cleats, sandals, and batting helmets, among other items.
