Adam DelMarcelle: Bearing Witness

I bear witness to the world by depicting my life experiences. In this act, I place myself in the position of collateral damage for the viewer, understanding that my pain is trivial insofar as I can use it to connect with everyone else alive. 

The hope is to release others from their pain and, in the process, possibly release a little of my own. It is the artist’s responsibility to honestly depict what it means to be alive in their time. If we are successful in being earnest, those that come after us have the ability to excavate our life work to learn to live better by realizing our mistakes and then repositioning themselves to avoid the choices of those who came before.
