Dark Matter

In an exhibit that fills the gallery with handmade sculptures of black aluminum mesh, local artist Gerri Sayler alludes to time as an undulating loop of nature’s cycles that includes birth, death and re-birth.

The first floor of the gallery features installations in which the weight of the material offers stark visual contrasts — some installations are densely layered while others are ethereal and wispy. The artwork offers viewers a uniquely immersive experience that isn’t confined to the walls.

Sayler’s “Dark Matter” exhibit is the culmination of her nine-month artist residency at the Prichard, during which time she explored the fibrous properties of aluminum mesh and experimented with fabrication techniques with stunning results.
