Paul Klee and the Prinzhorn Collection

Exhibition Website

Sep 15 2018 - Mar 10 2019

In an anxious world, many of us value art as a therapeutic tool for expression. German psychiatrist and art historian Hans Prinzhorn (1886–1933) encountered an unprecedented depth of expression in artwork created by patients battling mental disorders, and presented their art in the publication Artistry of the Mentally Ill (1922).

This exhibition features three volumes by Prinzhorn, containing the work of these patient-artists, alongside psychologically charged paintings, sculpture, and works on paper by modernist artists Paul Klee, Jean Dubuffet, and Max Ernst.
