Portraiture has been defined as creating the likeness of a person. The Ancients Greeks made portraits of everyone from gods to common people. During the Renaissance there were portraits of royals and nobles; the ones who could afford the portrait. It is the 20th century portraiture culture that has embraced all ideas of identity and expression. Today, there are so many different portals to communication and ways of introducing who we are and what we stand for. The works in this exhibition speak in a very fresh and relevant voice. Some are representations of iconic figures in history and others are an introspective look at identity.
