The AAM’s exhibition Zombies: Pay Attention! looks at the space between the living and the dead, examining the notion of the “living dead” or “undead” within contemporary culture. Suspended in an ambiguous state between life and death, alive but not living, the figure of the zombie continues to be used by filmmakers, writers, and artists as a metaphor for fear, anxiety, and crisis. The AAM’s exhibition presents a global constellation of work that reflects on contemporary life, what it means to be living, and the potentially catastrophic effects of existing in the liminal space of the “undead.”
