Cycle & Pattern

Cycle & Pattern is a series of four dioramas experienced through multiple framings and perspectives. They tell the story of a playful interaction between the elegance of the celestial and whimsy of the mortal and material. Through the mentorship of Jose Fernandez of Ironhead Studio and costume designer Louise Mingenbach, who are each responsible for the costume design seen in many major motion pictures, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the garments on display are original works by senior fashion design students at Otis College of Art and Design. Each work is framed as a singular design while simultaneously presented as a grouping that encourages collective engagement. The gowns and designs are inspired by the constellations of the horoscope, grouped accordingly by their respective elements, Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air.
