TuftsPUBLIC: Wavefarm-in-Residence

Exhibition Website

Aug 29 2018 - Dec 16 2018

TuftsPUBLIC is a new gallery program of temporary public art throughout indoor and outdoor campus locations. The 2018-2019 academic year will feature the transmissions art organization, Wavefarm, in residence. Founders Galen Joseph Hunter and Tom Roe will install two sound projects pulled from their 15 year-old Wave Farm Artist Residency Program, which brought artists from across the globe to develop sonic installations on the 29-acre transmission art park in upstate New York. Their time on campus will also be punctuated by special performances, talks, workshops, and the installation of a short-wave radio station at the SMFA at Tufts.

At SMFA at Tufts, Wavefarm will pilot an SMFA radio station in the Art Library annex alongside an installation of Jeff Thompson's Every Radio Station, which makes the FM spectrum physical — 95 hand-built FM radios, one for each slot in the FM band, form a 30-foot (9.15-meter) line. All of the radios play simultaneously, letting visitors hear the entire spectrum at once, or walk closely along the line to hear stations individually.
