Preserving Petroglyphs: Rock Art Casts from Ellsworth County, Kansas

Exhibition Website

An expert and enthusiast of Native American petroglyphs, George Jelinek created several plaster casts of Indian Hill petroglyphs in the late 1960s, covering them in the site’s sandstone dust. In 2007 and 2008, Thomas Witty, an archaeologist and colleague of Jelinek, donated the casts to the Mulvane Art Museum. The seven works in Preserving Petroglyphs depict various forms, including anthropomorphic figures, bulls, and birds.

This exhibition was curated by Mulvane Intern, Lori Holstrom.
