From Nonconformism to Feminisms: Russian Women Artists From the Kolodzei Art Foundation

The exhibition From Non-Conformism to Feminisms: Russian Women Artists from the Kolodzei Art Foundation features the work of emerging, mid-career, and established artists spanning three artistic generations, from the 1960’s to the present. Arranged thematically, the show includes works in a diverse range of media – painting, photography, collage, works on paper, video, and interactive installations – emphasizing the importance of media experimentation for contemporary Russian women artists. 

Artworks on display represent several stages in the evolution of non-conformist and independent art in Russia, tracing their development from Krushchev’s “Thaw” to the art of the post-Soviet decade and present day. The exhibition is a visual exploration of the development and accomplishments of women artists from Russia.

The Kolodzei Art Foundation, Inc., is a U.S.-based nonprofit, found in 1991. The Kolodzei Collection of Russian and Eastern European Art is one of the world’s largest collections, consisting of over 7,000 works by more than 300 artists from Russia and the former Soviet Union.
