Herb Snitzer has photographed with warmth and compassion the communities he has embraced. Internationally famous for his iconic photographs of jazz musicians, his work is collected by major museums such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and he has had photographs featured in LIFE, Fortune, and TIME, among many others. The winner of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NAACP for work with social justice causes, Snitzer has spent sixty years capturing images of people from all walks of life. His photographs are rooted in his life experiences.

Can I Get a Witness will focus on his photographs of diverse people ranging from urban street scenes of New York in the 1950s to spirited shots of the St. Petersburg Pride celebrations in recent decades. It will also showcase selections from the recently acquired portfolio, Such Sweet Thunder, focusing on musicians committed to social justice such as Nina Simone, a musical storyteller who used her voice for empowerment.
