The Sound of Art

Exhibition Website

Jan 17 2018 - Mar 4 2018

Art and music have had a long and compelling relationship. Baroque refers equally to the paintings of Caravaggio and the symphonies of Bach, while the impressionism of Monet’s images of Giverny is echoed by the impressionism of musical works like Debussy’s Clair de Lune. On a more personal level, who among us hasn’t accessed an internal soundtrack when walking through an art museum, or been irrepressibly reminded of a particular artwork when listening to a certain song. With that idea in mind, we asked a selection of local musicians, artists, and community members to choose a work in the Norton’s permanent collection and pair it with a song or other musical piece that he or she felt best reflected the art. This exhibition is the result. As you view the art, you can access the accompanying playlist either through scanning the QR code, or with the steps outlined in our brochure. Enjoy! We did.
