Theresa Ganz: Storm Diptych

Exhibition Website

Mar 23 2018 - Oct 14 2018

Theresa Ganz alters images of natural and architectural structures digitally and by hand, prompting consideration of how our perceptions are transformed by photographic reproductions. Storm Diptych presents video footage of hurricanes and smaller storms shot through a window and set to the first movement of Mozart’s String Quartet No. 19 (1785), known as the “Dissonance” quartet for its unusually modern atonality. Ganz’s imagery evokes the intense emotions and spiritual feelings inspired by 19th-century Romantic landscape painting. Distortion in the soundtrack, however, suggests the more fraught conditions of the present day, characterized by both the longing for and the destruction of the natural environment.
