Peninsula Fine Arts Center (PFAC) is pleased to announce Art of Asia, an engaging showcase of Contemporary Art that explores the rich history and cultural diversity of the continent of Asia – from China to India and beyond. Art of Asia is on view at PFAC from February 2 through March 25, 2018.

Cloth as Community: Hmong Textiles in America Hmong paj ntaub (flower cloth) is one of the world’s great textile traditions and exemplar of cloth as community. The textiles were created by Hmong women in the United States, including designs derived from traditional paj ntaub and the embroidered story cloth form that developed in Thai refugee camps. (A Program of ExhibitsUSA, a national division of Mid-American Arts Alliance, and The National Endowment for the Arts)

Shanghai Passages: Longtang Photographs by Gong Jianhua Photographs by contemporary Chinese photographer Gong Jianhua (born 1953), who extensively photographed Shanghai’s longtang neighborhoods in the 1980s and 1990s. This exhibition on loan from the University of Richmond Museums.

Disposable Connections: Works by Warren King A series of life-size figures, made with only cardboard and glue, is an ongoing project to recreate the residents of the artist’s grandparents’ home village one individual at a time.

Transposition: Asian Cultures Six prominent Chinese artists present a meaningful cultural expression and explanation of contemporary Chinese art promoting cross-cultural understanding and awareness through art and travel. In partnership with The Linda Matney Gallery and Landmark Art and Cultural Exchange

Art of India: Charlene DeSouza Red Clay Terracotta, folk miniature paintings and mirror works depict everyday observations of the people, culture, architecture, and life in India.
