Settled is a body of work examining the iconic imagery of suburban life through photographic still-life. “I have always been drawn to tin and plastic kitsch and these houses seemed destined to become still-life subjects. Perhaps their appeal is based on my own internal conflict between the freedom and uncertainty of being an artist and the comfort of settling for something else. The imagery suggests the warmth and comfort of home but the material of this world is inorganic, burning from within, putting reality at odds with first impressions.” Daniel Jackson uses realistic painting and photography to examine traditional still-life through whimsical interventions. His work attempts to gain a greater understanding of the role of art by questioning our cultural visual language.
