Sweet Inspiration: Creative Cakes Inspired by the Illustrations of Charles Santore

This special one-week exhibition of artistic cakes is inspired by the imaginary illustrations of Charles Santore. Co-curated by Noelle DeSantis, owner of Ella Vanilla, a cake decorating supply shop in Chestnut Hill, Sweet Inspiration includes confections by leading Philadelphia cake artists, many of whom have had formal education in studio and fine art. Each piece will highlight the concept of cake as artwork, and reveal its ability to transform one of Santore’s inventive illustrations into an edible “sculpture” vis-à- vis color, design, texture, and form. The cake artists will bring samples of their own special treats for a festive cake reception.
