Iowa State University has a long tradition of commissioning portraits, begining in the 1930's. Continuing this tradition, Iowa artist Rose Frantzen was commissioned to paint portraits of impactful Iowa State University alumni, faculty, staff, and friends resulting in the 39 portraits on display today. Faces of Iowa State celebrates the tradition and impact of portraiture at Iowa State University and shows the development of Iowa State as a story of democracy where the vision, dreams, and actions of individual people play a vital role in how our collective identity is shaped.
