Salon Style: Collected Marks on Paper

Exhibition Website

Mar 8 2018 - Aug 20 2018

This presentation is the first of a two-part exhibition highlighting select works on paper from the vast holdings of the Anderson family collection. Each of the unique works in Salon Style presents a collection of marks intuitively and intentionally placed by the artists, hanging as if they were adorning the walls of a home. From Arshile Gorky’s striking self-portrait to Helen Frankenthaler’s hand-colored monotype to Richard Diebenkorn’s expansive paintings on paper, these works encourage the viewer to pause, examine closely, and reflect upon how 20th century American artists, many of whom practiced largely on canvas, also used paper as an exploration of their process.
