Vanessa Diaz: Walgreens Windows

Exhibition Website

Dec 1 2017 - Mar 1 2018

Appropriation, site specificity, impermanence, accumulation, and hybridization characterize a collection of oddments left over from human endeavors. A Demand which Could Only be Satisfied Later is a site-specific piece developed for the ‘window display’ viewing experience. Referencing notions of allegory, this installation is centered on fragmented methods of visual merchandising to instigate an alternative perspective on utility, and comment on desires to collect for the living space.

Vanessa Diaz is a sculpture and installation artist based in south Florida. Her work utilizes scavenged furnishings, building materials and cast aside objects to explore notions of unfamiliarity and reconsider architectural space. Ms. Diaz is currently working on a large-scale exhibition opening October 2018 at the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum in Milwaukee. Her practice is highly influenced by new locations and encompasses an on site approach to developing projects. She often travels to make her work, and has participated in artist residency programs throughout the United States, in Bavaria, France, and most recently at the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans.
