One of the most significant printmakers, painters, and art educators of the 20th century, Garo Antreasian studied at the John Herron Art Institute in his hometown of Indianapolis. He is known for his experimentation in lithography and made lasting contributions to the medium while he served as the first technical director of the Tamarind Lithography Workshop. Under the leadership of Antreasian, Tamarind helped revolutionize lithography in the United States. Fragments is a suite of twelve lithographs plus title page and colophon that Antreasian created at Tamarind between December 11, 1960 and March 14, 1961. Some of his groundbreaking methods can be seen in this image, including collaging, embossing, and the use of gold leaf.
