Amanda Parer: Intrude

Exhibition Website

May 1 2018 - May 27 2018

Australian artist Amanda Parer uses her adorable larger-than-life inflatable bunnies to draw attention to the natural world, its fragility and our role within it. In May 2018, Cheekwood will present a selection of Parer’s “Intrude” inflatables: glowing, white rabbits that will take over the Cheekwood landscape. Though intentionally cute and seemingly innocent, these figures also represent the global conversation surrounding invasive species and their ability to alter natural habitats. The 18th Century introduction of European rabbits to Parer’s native Australia resulted in a rapidly escalating continent-wide epidemic that persists today. Through these precocious bunnies, visitors experience captivating works of art as well as engage in an ecological dialogue.
