From California and New York, to the European metropolises of Paris and Milan, these posters fused art with persuasion, offering the bank’s customers a glimpse into a history of consumer society. The scenic countryside, stylish personas in entertainment, and innovative technologies in transportation became indulgent distractions for societies living through two world wars. The industrial revolution thus birthed new modes of tapping into human emotion and desire, establishing a basis by which the individual participates in consumer culture in the present day. The Bakersfield Museum of Art is honored to display these works.
