In order to convey the history of art to our visitors, the museum’s galleries are organized chronologically and by culture. This exhibition takes a different approach. Visitors can compare works of art made by artists from different cultures over many centuries, such as a Netherlandish medieval sculpture and a 21st-century photograph made in South Africa, or a 14th-century Buddhist painting and a 20th-century French Surrealist painting made between the world wars. While enjoying some of the museum’s most spectacular acquisitions from the past three years, visitors will also discover common themes in art from around the globe.
