Elizabeth Osborne: Animal Paintings and Watercolors

Exhibition Website

Jan 13 2018 - Jun 24 2018

Woodmere Art Museum

Philadelphia, PA

One of Philadelphia’s most respected artists, Elizabeth Osborne (born 1936) is often drawn to the beauty and special personalities of household pets: dogs, cats, and other animals. Two recent, large-scale paintings and numerous watercolors anchor this intimate exhibition, exploring a charming, lesser-known side of Osborne’s practice.

With a career spanning over fifty years, Osborne’s body of work has been the subject of important critical study. She is well known for her figurative paintings of the 1960 and 70s as well as her current assemblage and color spectrum abstract compositions that blur the distinction between abstraction and representation.
