Cal Breed’s (American, born 1972) enthusiasm for glass is integral to how he communicates. He states, “Glass is the ink I write with and has been my medium for years.”
In 2002, his passion spurred him to open Orbix Hot Glass in Fort Payne, Alabama. The woods next to the Little River Canyon National Preserve, where his studio sits, provide endless inspiration for Breed. He experiments with and melds different glass blowing techniques to create sculptural pieces that reference natural forms and their connections to humankind. Dancing with light, Breed’s sculptures embody elements from his environment to metaphorically address the fleeting and vaporous nature of life.
