The DAAP Galleries located in the College of DAAP,  University of Cincinnati are pleased to Present “Panels from The Aids Memorial Quilt: The Names Project” In June of 1987, a small group of strangers gathered in a San Francisco storefront to document the lives they feared history would neglect. Their goal was to create a memorial for those who had died of AIDS, to help people understand the devastating impact of the disease. From this the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt was born. Since 1987, over 14 million people have visited the Quilt. The memorial is now 50 miles long, and affords an opportunity to look back at the previous decades of the AIDS epidemic and to reflect on what needs to be done in future to ensure that no further names are added.
