Places to Call Home: Settlements in the West

Exhibition Website

Feb 17 2018 - Feb 10 2019

In the last century, Western populations and industries have moved away from farms to urban areas. Today cities are hubs for commerce and industry, as well as spaces where cultural life and art thrive. While images of cowboys and agricultural scenes are still abundant in the art of the American West, there is also interesting artwork that depicts urban life in various stages of development.

People have congregated in specific places to exchange goods, ideas, and cultural practices for centuries. From Seattle, San Francisco, Santa Fe and San Antonio to pueblos and historic rendezvous sites, the urban west has a vitality that is represented in art. Artwork from the Haub Family Collection will highlight settlements in the West and the diversity of people that have created these thriving places of cultural exchange.
