Immigrant Artists & the American West

Exhibition Website

Feb 3 2018 - Jun 14 2020

Whether coming from the north, south, east or west, immigrants to the United States have worked together and with others to build a country based on the shared values of freedom and equality. Often in pursuit of better opportunities, immigrants have helped shape and develop the West as we know it today. Among the immigrant populations are artists who bring with them their cultural styles and traditions and those who learn new skills. Immigrant artists share depictions that are markedly different, or at times similar, to their homelands revealing their visions and interests in the American West. Drawing from the Haub Family Collection and the Northwest Collection, this exhibition highlights artwork of the American West made by immigrants and children of immigrants from diverse places including Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Russia, and Sweden.
