An entire world is captured by brushstroke in this series of brief encounters witnessed by Richard Gayton. In the 80’s on his way to teach at CCAC, Gayton began drawing fellow public transportation passengers on Cal Train, Muni, and BART. Most of the sketches for the portraits were executed inconspicuously during his 20-minute morning commute. The Museum is pleased to present this discrete and intimate body of work that provides a glimpse into Gayton’s everyday practice of being an artist and teacher.
