Craft Contemporary

Los Angeles, CA

In collaboration with the Japan Foundation and JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles, this exhibition examines the significance of bamboo in Japanese culture. Bamboo is utilized in countless ways in contemporary Japan, from the utilitarian to the spiritual, and functions as a bridge between the past and the present. A large, site-specific installation by artist Akio Hizume anchors the exhibition, accompanied by traditional and contemporary bamboo sculptures from a variety of renowned makers.
