Journeying West: Distinctive Firearms from the Smithsonian

Exhibition Website

The Buffalo Bill Center of the West, an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, has reopened its popular Journeying West: Distinctive Firearms from the Smithsonian. First placed on view in May 2013 in the lower gallery of the Center’s Cody Firearms Museum, the exhibit is now in a new space in the center of the museum’s main gallery, with all new graphics.

The National Firearms Collection at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History was established in 1876 in honor of the American Centennial. Since then, it has grown to nearly 7,000 firearms. On display here are fifty objects from that collection, eight of them new to the exhibition in this redesigned space.
