Royal Splendor: The Coronation Gown from "The Crown"

Exhibition Website

Oct 20 2017 - Jan 7 2018

Royal Splendor: The Coronation Gown from The Crown, the first in a new Winterthur exhibition series entitled Eye on the Iconic, will feature the replica coronation gown worn in episode five, “Smoke and Mirrors,” of the Netflix series The Crown, a dramatized history of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Like the richly symbolic centuries-old coronation ceremony, the coronation dress is iconic—one of the most celebrated dresses of the 20th century and a symbol of a historical moment witnessed by millions around the world. The replica dress is also a true icon, created in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Join us this fall beginning October 20, 2017, to view this very special dress and experience the rich connections an object like this one makes between the Queen, her people, and the world through the celebration and memory of important historical moments. And look for future presentations in the Eye on the Iconic series, each highlighting a single remarkable object.
