Master Class: Northern European Art 1500-1650 from the Permanent Collection

A student of art history benefits immeasurably from encounters with original works of art. At Vassar, the study of art from Northern Europe of the 1500s and 1600s is inextricably linked to the firsthand examination of paintings, drawings, and prints. This exhibition, composed of holdings from the Art Center, will explore the particular role of a campus collection in teaching the art of this period. Featured works include those by Dürer, Cranach, Joos van Cleve, Lucas van Leyden, Rembrandt, and Jan Lievens. The exhibition is organized in honor of the 43-year-long teaching career of Susan Donahue Kuretsky, Professor of Art on the Sarah Gibson Blanding Chair.
